I want to tell you my story about how I got into beatboxing. When I was younger, I was physically and verbally bullied until the end of Grade 10. I pretty much had no friends and was one of the quietest kids in school. I was a loner trying to fit in. I had no self-esteem whatsoever. With a face decked with pimples while wearing baggy, unkempt clothes, I was pretty much everything you can find in an unattractive girl. I was never appreciated.
With absolutely no social life, I spent my time at home surfing the web. This was when I came across a beatboxing over the internet. With all the time in the world, I started practicing everyday. I didn’t realize that I got better because at school I was still made fun of by my peers and told to quit.
I actually thought about quitting, but by the second half of Grade 10 but my brother convinced me to let him post my videos onto YouTube. My first few videos all went viral within mere hours, spanning globally on social networking feeds and shared links everywhere, and now I am the most viewed and most subscribed female beatboxer on YouTube.
What I want to tell anybody who is going through the same struggles is that they are not alone. They have to trust their struggles, be positive, and everything will always get better. As for the bullies, think about what you’re doing and don’t judge a person now because later in life, you will look back and regret the things you have done to that person.
